With a growing skills shortage and competitive labour market the Private Sector is in fierce competition with the Public Sector to recruit. The Public Sector must use all the tools at its disposal to attract and retain the right people. Recruitment Agencies have been part of Government recruitment practices for a long time. As the economy continues to improve and confidence picks up, recruitment is on the rise. Now more than ever, there is a need to fill specialist roles to match an increase in output. However, an improving economy has also resulted in labour movements. The Australian government may be the biggest employer in the country but it is not exempt from the growing labour shortage.
There is fierce competition for a smaller pool of skilled labour market entrants and not only do Government Agencies have to compete with the private sector; they need to contend with public sector counterparts as movements between agencies are common and frequent.
These workforce challenges do not end there. An ageing workforce and low population growth has propelled succession planning and talent management to the top of the "to-do list". The public sector has identified it’s need to develop workforce capability in order to future proof its workforce.
